Negotiations with the Russian delegation are set to follow the current prisoner exchanges, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a conversation with journalists on June 13.
As the president explained, Ukraine’s Defense Minister is in direct contact with Dmitry Medinsky’s team in Moscow to complete the swaps. Once these exchanges conclude, expected around June 20–21, the two sides will convene to define the next agenda, the president said to journalists during a meeting.
“Today the exchanges are underway. You see how complex this process is. My information is that our Defense Minister is in contact with Medinsky, the representative of the Russian group, regarding the swaps. The agreement is that once the exchanges finish, the parties will discuss the next step,” Zelenskyy stated.
“We expect they could conclude on June 20th or 21st. I don’t want to give an exact date because these are people and the swaps are complicated. But they will happen. There will be another session tomorrow—it must happen. For now, that’s all I can add,” he added.
Earlier, Ukraine secured the return of severely wounded soldiers in its third prisoner exchange with Russia, repatriating critically injured servicemen under the all-for-all agreement reached in Istanbul.
