Zelenskyy and Starmer Sign Historic 100-Year Agreement Between Ukraine and the UK
The United Kingdom and Ukraine have signed a 100-year partnership agreement aimed at fostering strong ties across the full range of relations, including trade, security, defense, science and technology, education, culture, and more.
The agreement was signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit, according to Ukrinform.
“Today is truly a historic day. The relationship between Ukraine and the United Kingdom is closer than ever. We have reached a new level—this is more than just a strategic partnership. We have signed a 100-year partnership agreement,” Zelenskyy stated.
According to a press release on the UK governmental website, the treaty is expected to enhance military cooperation on maritime security through a new framework aimed at strengthening security in the Baltic, Black, and Azov Seas while deterring ongoing Russian aggression.
Additionally, the agreement is supposed to unite experts to foster scientific and technological collaborations in areas such as healthcare, disease prevention, agri-tech, space exploration, and drone technology, while also promoting lifelong connections through educational projects.
A new UK-developed Grain Verification Scheme will also be introduced to trace stolen grain from occupied Ukrainian territories.
“The 100 Year Partnership is a major step in supporting Ukraine’s long-term security – ensuring they are never again vulnerable to the kind of brutality inflicted on it by Russia – and committing to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with a sovereign Ukraine for the next century,“ the statement on the UK governmental website reads.
