Zelenskyy Calls for Special European Representative in Ukraine Peace Talks

A special representative from Europe should be involved in negotiations to achieve a just peace in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated during a video conference with media representatives on February 17.
Zelenskyy emphasized that while the United States remains Ukraine’s key strategic partner and a leader in providing assistance, European countries must also have a role in shaping security guarantees and support mechanisms.
He expressed support for appointing a European representative to contribute to the process. The Ukrainian president said, “The specifics of what Europe offers or how it supports Ukraine, in what format, and what security guarantees Europe is ready to provide – all this will definitely be on the table, for sure. We will consider who that person will be. It is important for us that this person is not only a representative of Europe and is respected by Europe. It is critical that everyone at the table understands that this is a serious person.”
He added that the negotiations should involve countries willing to take responsibility for security guarantees, assistance, investment in Ukraine’s reconstruction, and measures to prevent further Russian aggression.
Earlier it was announced China could send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine to enforce a ceasefire, but only alongside non-NATO nations like India, former Chinese colonel Zhou Bo suggested.
