In his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a direct appeal to China, emphasizing the pivotal role it could play in ending the war in Ukraine.

“If China truly wanted this war to stop, it could compel Moscow to end the invasion,” Zelenskyy stated, highlighting the influence China holds over Russia. “Without China, Putin’s Russia is nothing. Yet too often, China stays silent and distant instead of acting for peace,” he added.

Zelenskyy underscored that the world’s major powers—such as the United States, China, Britain, and France—must act when international law alone is insufficient. These nations, he said, represent the global authority needed to step in when diplomatic efforts falter.

He emphasized that Russia’s actions have discredited the country on the world stage, noting, “With this war, Russia has discredited itself. Even for those who do not yet criticize Putin openly, they still feel that Russia’s presence brings no good.”

Zelenskyy also revealed that he had raised this issue with US President Donald Trump and other global leaders, urging them to recognize the crucial role they must play in securing peace.

Earlier, Trump commented on Russia’s war against Ukraine on Truth Social following his meeting with President Zelenskyy, stating that with EU support, Ukraine is capable of fighting and restoring its territory to its “original form.”
