"I very much hope that the Hungarian position will be constructive towards us. We will also demonstrate steps toward them. We are neighbors; we must live in peace," Zelenskyy stated.

The Ukrainian president noted that he is prepared to meet with the new Hungarian authorities "at any moment."

He suggested that the timing might depend on the internal processes currently taking place within the Hungarian government.

"I think the new prime minister has internal matters regarding the formation of the government and relations with the European Union. We are ready," he added.

On April 13, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Péter Magyar, the leader of Hungary’s Tisza party, on his victory in the parliamentary elections held the previous day.

In a statement released following the vote, Zelenskyy described the result as a signal of a more "constructive approach" and expressed Ukraine's readiness to reset neighborly ties.

He emphasized that Kyiv was prepared for joint work to benefit both nations and enhance European stability, while Magyar declared that Hungary had made history by ending the long-standing rule of Viktor Orbán.
