The latest battlefield assessment also reported 234 combat engagements along the front line during the same period, including 32 clashes in the strategically important Pokrovsk sector and 24 assaults in the Huliaipole direction, both remaining among the key focal points of Russia’s offensive operations in eastern and southern Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russia’s total estimated losses since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022 have now reached roughly 1,348,790 personnel.

The updated figures also include the destruction of one Russian tank, four armored combat vehicles, 82 artillery systems, two multiple launch rocket systems, three air defense systems, and one aircraft.

Ukraine’s military additionally reported the loss of 2,131 operational-tactical drones, 325 military vehicles and fuel tankers, 13 ground robotic platforms, five additional pieces of special equipment, and two cruise missiles.

One of the most notable figures in the latest update was the reported destruction of three Russian air defense systems and one aircraft in a single day, amid continued large-scale aerial attacks and intensified drone warfare between the two sides.

According to the General Staff, Russian forces launched 95 airstrikes over the past day, dropping 300 guided aerial bombs. Russian troops also deployed more than 9,600 attack drones and carried out over 3,300 shelling attacks on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, including 74 strikes using multiple launch rocket systems.

The Pokrovsk direction in the Donetsk region remains one of the key areas of Russia’s offensive operations, with Ukrainian defenders reporting 32 Russian assault attempts near settlements including Udachne, Novomykolaivka, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, and Molodetske.

The Huliaipole direction also saw intense fighting, with Russian forces carrying out 24 assault operations near settlements including Huliaipilske, Zaliznychne, Charivne, and Verkhna Tersa, according to the Ukrainian military.

Earlier, long-range drones reportedly struck the Nevinnomyssk Azot chemical plant in Russia’s Stavropol region overnight on May 16, causing a fire at one of Russia’s largest producers of ammonia and nitrogen fertilizers. Russian authorities confirmed a drone attack on the region, while the facility—linked to the supply of chemicals used in explosive production—has previously been targeted multiple times since 2025.
