Drones attacked an industrial facility in Russia’s Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug on October 16, triggering a fire roughly 3,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Ukrinform reported the attack, citing Radio Liberty and Russian regional authorities.

Khanty-Mansi Governor Ruslan Kukharuk confirmed that drones struck an industrial facility in the Surgut district, causing a fire. He added that specialists were assessing the extent and nature of the damage but did not identify the affected enterprise.

The Ukrainian OSINT monitoring channel Supernova+ claimed the target was the Surgut Condensate Stabilization Plant named after Viktor Chernomyrdin, who served as Russia’s prime minister from 1992 to 1998 and previously headed the Soviet gas industry. The facility's identification has not been independently confirmed.

The plant, operated by Gazprom Pererabotka, is Russia's largest facility for processing oil and gas condensate mixtures. It is located near Surgut in Western Siberia, approximately 3,000 kilometers from Ukraine.

The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug is one of Russia's major oil and natural gas production centers, making its industrial infrastructure significant to the country's energy sector.

The attack followed a series of drone alerts across Russia's remote Siberian energy-producing regions. Earlier on October 16, authorities declared drone threats in the Khanty-Mansi and neighboring Yamalo-Nenets autonomous districts, as well as the Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, and Sverdlovsk regions.
