According to footage published by the open-source monitoring channel Exilenova+ on October 25, several suspected cruise missiles struck the industrial facility, approximately 300 kilometers from Ukraine’s border. Videos circulating online showed smoke rising from the area following the reported impacts.

Lipetsk regional governor Igor Artamonov confirmed an attack on an industrial zone in Yelets. The Energia plant specializes in developing and manufacturing chemical power sources, including batteries and other electrical components used in Russian military equipment.

According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR), Energia is a strategically important supplier to Russia’s defense industry. Its products are used in several missile systems, including the Iskander-M ballistic missile, Iskander-K cruise missile, Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile, and Zircon missile.

The facility also manufactures 9B280-1 power units for 9M727 cruise missiles launched by the Iskander-K system and 9B-287 batteries for UMPB D-30SN guided glide bombs.

Additional components produced by the plant are used in universal glide and correction modules (UMPK), which allow conventional aerial bombs to be converted into guided weapons, as well as Kh-35U anti-ship missiles.

The extent of damage to the facility and any potential disruption to production have not yet been independently verified.

The reported strike follows a series of Ukrainian long-range attacks against Russian defense-industrial facilities involved in producing components for missiles, drones, and other military equipment.

Earlier, Ukrainian forces targeted the Proton-Electrotex electronics plant in Orel, another facility associated with Russia’s defense supply chain. Such operations have increasingly focused on industrial infrastructure supporting Russian weapons production.
