Ukrainian Drone Kills Head of Russian War-Supply Group in Occupied Crimea

A Ukrainian drone strike in temporarily occupied Crimea killed Anatoly Chernyshov, the executive director of a Russian organization involved in supplying equipment to Russian forces fighting against Ukraine.

The Russian organization “People’s Front. Everything for Victory” reported Chernyshov’s death on September 5. According to the group, the 58-year-old was wounded near the village of Skvortsove in the Simferopol district during an aerial attack by Ukrainian forces.

Chernyshov sustained blast-related injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Russian sources said he was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage.

Chernyshov had served as executive director of the organization since October 2025. The group provides material and logistical support to Russian forces involved in the war against Ukraine and also supports pro-war organizations in Russia.

Its assistance to Russian troops has included vehicles, electronic warfare systems, drone detectors, and watercraft.

On September 3, a senior Russian Aerospace Forces officer was shot and seriously wounded near Engels, home to a key strategic bomber base. Preliminary reports identified him as Major General Nikolai Varpakhovich, commander of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division, which operates aircraft used to launch cruise missile strikes against Ukraine.
