Ukrainian Helicopter Finds Russia’s Hidden Forest Position—and Sets Off Massive Detonations

Ukrainian forces carried out a precision airstrike on a camouflaged Russian position deep inside enemy defensive lines, Ukraine’s North Operational Grouping of Forces reported, releasing battlefield footage of the strike on July 9.

The operation unfolded in two stages. First, aerial reconnaissance operators from Ukraine’s 15th Army Corps detected a well-hidden Russian position inside a forested area and passed its coordinates to aviation units.

A Ukrainian combat helicopter then struck the target with rockets.

The video shows a series of powerful explosions followed by prolonged secondary detonations after the impact.

“Judging by the nature of the detonation, the Ukrainian helicopter hit not only the location of enemy personnel but also field ammunition depots,” Ukraine’s North Operational Grouping of Forces said.

The footage suggests the strike did more than damage a concealed troop position. The secondary explosions indicate that ammunition stored at the site likely detonated, amplifying the damage to Russian forces hidden in the forest.

Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine’s Army Aviation planned to gradually replace its Soviet-designed helicopters with US-made UH-60 Black Hawk aircraft as aging fleets become increasingly difficult to maintain due to reliance on Russian-made components.
