Ukrainian Special Forces Capture Three Russians, Then Rescue an Unexpected ‘Bambi’

Ukrainian Special Operations Forces captured three Russian soldiers, killed another, and evacuated a young deer from the combat zone during a raid on Russian positions, in an operation dubbed “Bambi.”

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces Command reported the operation on August 15, saying operators from the 6th Separate Special Operations Regiment Rangers covertly infiltrated the mission area before attacking Russian positions.

The Ukrainian troops located Russian defensive positions and offered the soldiers inside an opportunity to surrender before the assault began. The Russian troops refused, after which a brief engagement followed.

According to the Special Operations Forces Command, one Russian serviceman was killed and three others were taken prisoner. Ukrainian operators also seized weapons, communications equipment, and documents from the positions.

During the subsequent clearing of the area, the troops discovered a fawn inside the combat zone. The animal was removed from the area and evacuated to a safer location.

The Special Operations Forces referred to the raid as “Operation Bambi,” combining the combat mission with the evacuation of the animal. The command did not disclose the location where the operation took place.

Earlier, on August 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces had liberated 745 square kilometers and retaken 26 settlements across the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions during an eight-month offensive in the Oleksandrivka direction.
