Here's Where You Can Celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24th, If You're Not in Ukraine

Saturday, August 24th, is Ukraine's Independence Day and all around the world Ukrainians, and supporters of Ukraine, will celebrate the country’s freedom. In the past few years, community celebrations have become an important way of building support and continued awareness.  

Below is a list of Independence Day celebrations by country—though there are undoubtedly thousands more not included on this list. If you find yourself near one, go! Eat varenyky and show support to Ukrainians in your community. As Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, says “I am a drop in the ocean. " When we all act together, no matter how small the action, we become a powerful force.

Australia

Copenhagen: “Ukraine Independence Day: Poetry, music, and history in fragile times.” In collaboration with the Folkeuniversitet and the Danish Cultural Institute, a special event at the University of Copenhagen will celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day with live performances of poetry, spoken word, and music. The second annual run starts at 7:00am at 2701 Barnard Way, Santa Monica, CA 90405, with a flash mob displaying the “Tryzub”, or trident, and finishes on the historic Santa Monica Pier, where a 100ft long Ukrainian flag will proudly be displayed.
