Ukraine Denounces Iranian UN Charter Claims, Calling Tehran a Direct Accomplice to Moscow

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has rejected recent threats from Tehran as “unjustified and groundless,” condemning the Iranian regime for acting as a direct accomplice in Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Sybiha wrote in a post on X on July 27.
Sybiha stated that Tehran lacks any moral or legal foundation to portray itself as a victim or cite international law to justify its hostile rhetoric against Ukraine and its allies. “The regime in Teheran is a direct accomplice to Russian aggression against Ukraine, fuelling Moscow’s criminal war with weapons that have killed Ukrainians since 2022,” the foreign minister declared, referencing Iran’s supply of loitering munitions and military assistance to Russian forces.

In calls with EU High Rep Kallas and FM Lavrov, made clear that what the freeloader in Kyiv did CANNOT GO UNANSWERED.
Sybiha emphasized that “Iran has no standing to pretend to be a victim, let alone justify its threats with absurd references to the UN Charter.”

The Ukrainian diplomat further argued that Tehran’s aggressive stance is a calculated effort to divert international attention away from Russian military strikes targeting commercial shipping corridors in the Black Sea. According to Sybiha, Moscow’s campaign against maritime navigation threatens international trade routes and jeopardizes global food supply chains.
“With its statements, Iran also tries to shift attention away from Russia’s terror against civilian shipping in the Black Sea, which is threatening global food security,” Sybiha noted.
Addressing the wider diplomatic response, the foreign minister highlighted that Russian attacks on civilian maritime infrastructure will be a central focus of an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting.
Expecting diplomatic measures from international partners, Sybiha noted that “Russia’s attacks on freedom of navigation will be at the spotlight of today’s emergency UN Security Council meeting and we expect strong responses by the international community.”
Tehran’s claims followed a long-range drone operation by Ukraine’s Security Service that struck sanctioned cargo vessels transporting Iranian military hardware to Russia across the Caspian Sea supply corridor.
