150,000 Russian Troops Killed in 2024, Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Reports
Russian forces recorded their heaviest losses in 2024 since the start of the full-scale war, with total casualties reaching 434,000 troops. Of these, approximately 150,000 were killed in action last year alone, according to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Syrskyi, who shared the figures in a January 19 interview with TSN.
“According to our estimates, total losses have exceeded 434,000 personnel, with approximately 150,000 killed. These figures are for 2024 alone. This year, their combat losses were greater than those sustained in the two previous years of the war combined,” Syrskyi said.
As of January 19, Russia’s total losses since the start of the full-scale invasion have reached 818,740 troops, according to Ukraine’s General Staff. This estimate aligns closely with figures from Western intelligence agencies.
According to estimates from the United Kingdom, Russia has lost over 750,000 troops killed and wounded in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war.
When asked about the ratio of Ukrainian to Russian losses, Syrskyi responded: “Several times more, let’s put it that way.”
On January 18, the Dutch open-source intelligence project Oryx revealed that it documented through visual evidence over 20,000 pieces of Russian military equipment lost since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
