16th Odesa International Film Festival Opens in Kyiv With 100+ Films and Global Filmmakers

From September 24 to October 4, the 16th Odesa International Film Festival will take place in Kyiv, bringing together Ukrainian and international filmmakers for one of the country’s most important cultural events.
This year’s program features more than 100 films across key sections, including the National Documentary Competition and the European Competition, which spotlight both new Ukrainian works and emerging voices in European cinema. Genres range from hard-hitting documentaries to contemporary dramas, reflecting urgent themes shaping today’s cultural conversation.
Beyond screenings, the festival emphasizes dialogue with the industry. Attendees will be able to take part in Q&A sessions with directors and actors, as well as master classes and presentations exploring visual effects, storytelling, and new ways of engaging audiences.
Special thematic programs include “Focus on Poland,” “German Accent,” “Best of Europe,” “Gala Premieres,” “Festival of Festivals,” “The Human Comedy,” and “Through Friends’ Eyes.” These sections showcase some of the most notable projects currently defining global cinema.

Screenings will be hosted at Kyiv’s “Zhovten” cinema, the “Oscar” cinema at Gulliver Mall, and the House of Architect, while the opening ceremony will be held at the Parkovy Exhibition and Convention Center.
The Odesa International Film Festival, forced to relocate to Kyiv due to the ongoing war, remains a vital platform for cultural exchange, new talent, and international collaboration. Organizers describe it as “an opportunity to experience contemporary Ukrainian and world cinema, feel the pulse of the global industry, and become part of the wider film community.”
Earlier, it was reported that London’s Barbican Centre will showcase a series of screenings dedicated to Ukrainian cinema, featuring films that reflect different periods of the nation’s history.
