17 Injured in a Russian 'Double Tap' Attack on Kryvyi Rih
In the early hours of October 20, 2024, Kryvyi Rih faced a Russian attack that resulted in significant damage and injuries. An administrative building was partially destroyed, alongside residential homes and vehicles. A fire broke out as a result of the strike, but emergency services quickly contained it.
According to Serhiy Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, the number of injured has risen to 17, up from an earlier report of 13. Among the injured is a rescuer. Fourteen of those hurt required medical assistance, with eight currently hospitalized in moderate condition.
The attack specifically impacted several structures, including a hotel, a shop, an administrative building, an educational institution, and seven apartment buildings. In addition, approximately 15 vehicles were damaged, including three fire engines, three police cars, and an ambulance.
To support the affected residents, local authorities have established aid centers. These centers are receiving reports of damaged property and distributing construction materials, as well as providing food and hot beverages to those in need.
Lysak emphasized the ongoing threat, stating that Russian forces conducted a second strike during the response to the initial attack, targeting emergency personnel as they worked to extinguish the fire caused by the first explosion. The State Emergency Service reported that this second attack resulted in injuries among rescue workers and damaged their equipment.
In the evening, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the movement of drones over at least six regions of Ukraine and warned of the potential for further ballistic attacks in the direction of Kryvyi Rih.
