28 Settlements in Kursk Region Now Controlled by Ukrainian Forces, Says Kursk Regional Head

According to head of the Kursk region Alexey Smirnov, 28 settlements in Kursk region are under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This was reported by Smirnov during a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, according to RIA Novosti. He stated that the authorities are unaware of the fate of the 2,000 people who remain in the areas controlled by the Ukrainian forces.

Smirnov added that 121,000 people have been evacuated from Kursk region, with a total of 180,000 residents requiring evacuation.

On the 6th of August, the Governor of Russia’s Kursk Region declared a state of emergency due to Ukrainian forces reportedly entering the region. By August 9, Russian media confirmed the presence of Ukrainian troops in the district center of Sudzha.

Several Russian Telegram channels are reporting that Ukrainian forces are already consolidating their positions and organizing supplies, and some Russian war correspondents confirmed the presence of Ukrainian troops in Snahost, Olgovka, and Mirny, and write about ongoing battles for Martynovka.
