Russia Builds Defenses Near Kursk Nuclear Plant Amid Ukraine's Reported Advance
According to the BBC, Russian forces have started building defensive lines near the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) as Ukrainian troops push further into the Kursk region.
This was revealed by the BBC on August 11, following an analysis of photos by BBC Verify.
The reported Ukrainian incursion of the Kursk region started on August 6, since then, Ukraine has advanced further. In less than 48 hours, Ukraine has gained more territory than during the entire summer 2023 counter-offensive, according to The Telegraph.
The analyzed photos indicated that Russia is building new defensive lines near the Kursk NPP. Ukrainian forces engaged at Obshchy Kolodez are reported to be within 50 km (31 miles) of the facility.
The Mayor of Kurchatov in the Russian Kursk region reported on August 9 that military actions were taking place "a few dozen kilometers from the city border," where the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is located.
