307 Ukrainian Defenders Freed in Day Two of Massive 1,000-for-1,000 Prisoner Swap With Russia

On the second day of a large-scale prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia, 307 Ukrainian defenders returned home, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on May 24.
The ongoing exchange, conducted under a 1,000-for-1,000 framework brokered in Türkiye, has resulted in the return of 697 individuals over two days.

“Among those who returned today are warriors from our Armed Forces, the State Border Guard Service, the National Guard of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy wrote.
“I thank everyone involved in the exchange process, those who have been working around the clock. Our goal is to bring every single person back from Russian captivity. We continue cooperating with our partners to make this possible.”

On May 23, Ukraine has launched the first phase of a large-scale prisoner exchange with Russia, bringing 390 Ukrainian defenders home as part of an agreed 1,000-for-1,000 swap.
