"A Strike Against American Business": Missile Attack on Flex Plant in Ukraine Sparks Call for Trump Response

The American business community in Ukraine is expecting a response from US President Donald Trump following Russia’s strike on the plant of American company Flex in Mukachevo, Zakarpattia region.
President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, Andy Hunder, said on Svoboda Live on August 21 that this was a direct attack on American business.
“This is one of the largest American investments in western Ukraine. It is very important for us now to convey to the White House, to President Trump, that this is a strike against American [business],” Hunder stressed.
He noted that thanks to the swift actions of the company’s management, the lives of more than 600 night-shift workers were saved. There were no fatalities, although the plant suffered “very significant” damage. Hunder recalled that less than a week has passed since the summit in Alaska and a meeting at the White House with President Zelenskyy and European leaders, where peace and a potential ceasefire were discussed.

Flex later confirmed to Radio Svoboda that its facility in Mukachevo had been hit.
“I can confirm that our plant in Mukachevo, Ukraine, was damaged in a missile strike on the morning of August 21,” said Conor Phillips, Director of Public Communications for the EMEA region.
According to him, evacuation protocols were enacted, several employees and contractors were injured, and six people remain hospitalized.
“We are currently assessing the extent of the damage to our facility, and our Business Continuity Plan has been activated. At this time, our main focus is on ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees,” Phillips stated.

He emphasized that Flex’s operations in Mukachevo are “strictly focused on civilian consumer manufacturing, including coffee machines”: “This facility does not produce, supply, or service any military equipment or defense-related components.”
Commenting on the attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: “Now, each day carves out the contours of future security architecture for Ukraine. Weapons, funds, cooperation with partners, forces on the ground, in the air, and at sea. And every day, there will be new steps taken by partners to support Ukraine. Thank you to everybody helping.”
Earlier, it was reported that cruise missiles attack left 19 people injured. According to Mukachevo City Council Secretary Andrii Hlagoła, about 600 employees were inside the plant at the time of the attack. Thanks to the swift evacuation into designated shelters on the factory grounds, a mass casualty tragedy was averted.
