Another Russian Official Dies Mysteriously—This Time Inside the Russian Embassy in Cyprus

Cypriot authorities are investigating the death of a senior Russian embassy official found dead inside the Russian Embassy in Nicosia, ANT1 reported on January 11.
ANT1 wrote that the body was discovered on January 8 inside the official’s office. Cypriot police were notified several hours later and were initially denied access to the embassy building due to diplomatic immunity. The body was eventually handed over to police in the embassy courtyard.

According to information cited by ANT1, embassy officials told Cypriot authorities that the death was a suicide and said a note had been left. However, the note was not provided to local investigators, with the embassy stating it would be sent to Moscow instead.
Cyprus’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and national security services have been informed and are closely monitoring the case, ANT1 reported. A legally mandated autopsy is expected to be carried out to clarify the cause of death.

The Russian Embassy later confirmed that one of its staff members, identified only by initials, had died on January 8, without providing further details.
The incident has drawn additional attention as it emerged amid reports of the disappearance in Cyprus of a former executive linked to the Russian fertilizer company Uralkali, though authorities have not indicated any connection between the two cases, Cyprus Police News reported on January 11.
Previously, it was reported that two prominent Russian executives, Alexander Tyunin, CEO of UMATEX, and Andrei Krotkov, CEO of Zeppelin, have been involved in separate incidents that have raised concerns, according to a Hromadske report, citing Russian media outlets.
