Kyiv’s Central Railway Station will host a charity event on May 16 titled “Frequencies of Defence,” featuring Ukrainian female DJs performing to raise funds for specially designed body armor for women serving in Ukraine’s defense forces.

The event aims to address the urgent need for protective gear tailored to female anatomy, improving safety and mobility for women on the frontlines.

This is the first event of its kind held at Kyiv’s Central Railway Station and represents a combination of cultural performance and public support for a pressing humanitarian need.

The event is organized by “Arm Women Now“, a social initiative promoting gender equality and support for women in the security and defense sector since the start of the Russian full-scale invasion.

The organization has developed NATO-standard military uniform patterns specifically tailored for women and has supplied over 10,000 female Ukrainian defenders with these uniforms free of charge.

The event lineup includes DJs Vilce (13:00–13:15 UTC), Katro Zauber (13:15–14:00 UTC), Auua (16:00–16:45 UTC), and Ana B (16:45–17:30 UTC).

The organizers describe “Frequencies of Defence” as a fusion of female solidarity, electronic music, and a frontline necessity, transforming sound into literal protection. This initiative highlights the ongoing challenges women defenders face and mobilizes public support through cultural engagement.

Currently, Arm Women Now is fundraising to provide 250 female-specific bulletproof vests, addressing the inadequacy of standard male body armor for women. The typical male armor often leaves critical areas unprotected and restricts movement, increasing the risk of injury. The cost of one vest is approximately 25,000 UAH (approximately $680), with a total fundraising target of 6,250,000 UAH (approximately $170,000).

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, women have played a crucial role in defense efforts. Arm Women Now seeks to address the lack of properly fitting protective gear for women, ensuring they have adequate safety equipment tailored to their needs.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Unit announced the beginning of the recruitment process for the newly established Harpies Women’s Unit, which will focus on using unmanned and robotic systems. The Unmanned Systems Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced this on Telegram on April 2.

The Harpies, a community of women, will operate drones and robotic units, “The unit also involves men, but the role of pilots who deliver the final blow will be performed exclusively by women,” the statement says.
