Austria Confirms Gas Supply Stability Without Reliance on Russian Transit
The suspension of Russian natural gas transit through Ukraine has not affected gas supply to Austrian consumers, according to a report by Austrian Gas Grid Management AG (AGGM) on January 1.
"Despite the conflict in Ukraine and changes to import contracts for Austria, there are no indications of supply disruptions for Austrian end users," the AGGM report noted.
The Austrian authorities assured that gas supply in the country is guaranteed, as market participants have turned to alternative sources, such as entry points from Germany and Italy, as well as Austrian storage facilities. These measures "allowed the limitations in supply to be compensated," according to the Austrian portal OTS.
"Gas supply to Austria remains secure based on the current registration data," the AGGM report stated.
Previously, the Ukrainian Gas Transmission System Operator (OGTSU), Ukraine ceased transiting Russian natural gas on January 1, 2025.
