Azov Fighters Deploy ‘Shahed-Like’ UAS SETH Strike Drones on the Front Lines

The 12th Brigade “Azov” of the National Guard of Ukraine has been equipped with domestically produced UAS SETH tactical strike drones, acquired through the “Come Back Alive” foundation. These drones feature an automated targeting system and are actively used on the Toretsk front.
According to the foundation’s press service, the UAS SETH system is fully automated and designed for ease of use. Footage released by the brigade shows operators employing a reconnaissance drone to designate a target—a Russian military truck—before the strike drone autonomously engages it.

The UAS SETH drones acquired by “Come Back Alive” are produced by Ukrainian manufacturers. The aircraft features a tailless delta-wing design, which resembles the silhouette of the Shahed-136 drone. However, unlike the Iranian model, this UAV is powered by an electric motor with a pusher propeller and is likely launched using a standard catapult system.
Specific details regarding the drone’s range and payload capacity have not been disclosed. However, based on its design, it is estimated to carry a payload of 3–5 kg and have a flight range of 50 km or more.
Imagery of the drone in use suggests the presence of a protected GPS receiver with an eight-channel CRPA antenna, enabling stable navigation even in environments affected by electronic warfare systems.

The UAS SETH was first publicly showcased during German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to Ukraine on December 2, 2024. At the time, Ukrainian officials highlighted the development of domestically produced drones as well as those created in cooperation with German defense companies. Some of these UAVs incorporate artificial intelligence-powered automatic target acquisition systems from German manufacturers.
Additionally, Germany’s Helsing company has announced plans to produce 6,000 HX-2 strike drones for Ukraine’s defense forces.
Earlier, Ukraine’s long-range drone AN-196 Liutyi, known as the “Ukrainian Shahed,” received a major upgrade, increasing its warhead capacity to 75 kg—50% more than its previous payload. According to Donbas Realities, the upgraded drone successfully struck the Saratov Oil Refinery, covering over 600 km.
Initially introduced by Ukroboronprom in 2022, the Liutyi features a dual-boom design, reinforced fiberglass construction, and modular capabilities, allowing it to operate from improvised runways. Reports suggest its range may now extend to 2,000 km, though official details remain undisclosed.
