Belgium Confirms Upcoming F-16 Delivery and Readiness for Ukraine Peacekeeping Role

Belgium has declared its readiness to contribute troops to a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine once active hostilities subside, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot said during a joint press briefing in Odesa on August 26, 2025, according to an article by Ukrainian Information Service (USI) published the same day.
“I will discuss this within the government, and especially with my colleague, the Minister of Defense, to determine what military support we can provide. But we are prepared to be involved in such peacekeeping forces when it becomes necessary,” Prévot stated.
He also confirmed that Belgium will deliver a batch of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine “in the coming months.”
Today in Odesa, I had the honor of welcoming my colleagues, Foreign Ministers of Belgium @PrevotMaxime, Luxembourg @Xavier_Bettel and the Netherlands @DutchMFA Director General for European Cooperation Heleen Bakker.

Prévot emphasized that Belgium’s support extends beyond military assistance to include humanitarian and financial aid, but underlined that the upcoming transfer of F-16s would significantly bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
The announcement came as Prévot visited Odesa alongside Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel and Dutch Deputy Foreign Minister Heleen Bakker for the launch of the new “Ukraine–Benelux” format of cooperation. The delegation met with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who described the visit as a “sign of solidarity, support, and courage.”
Earlier, it was reported that Belgium’s Foreign Minister criticized certain EU member states for delaying Ukraine’s EU membership and urged them to recall their own past and the help they once received.
