The Biden administration is finalizing a $725 million weapons package for Ukraine, two US officials confirmed to Reuters on November 28.

According to a source familiar with the plan, the package will include a range of anti-tank weapons such as land mines, drones, Stinger missiles, and additional ammunition for HIMARS systems.

Cluster munitions, often used in Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets fired by HIMARS, are also expected to be part of the shipment, as seen in the official notification to Congress obtained by Reuters.

One official said the formal notification could be sent to Congress as early as Monday, though the final contents and scale of the package might be adjusted in the days ahead.

This package is significantly larger than previous ones under the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA), which allows the US to draw directly from its existing military stockpiles to aid allies in emergencies. Recent PDA packages have ranged from $125 million to $250 million, but Biden is expected to use the estimated $4 billion to $5 billion in available PDA funds before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden discreetly requested Congress to approve an additional $24 billion in aid for Ukraine to bolster Kyiv’s defenses and replenish US military stockpiles before his term ends.
