Blinken: US to Ensure Ukraine’s Ability to Fight and Negotiate From a Position of Strength in 2025
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, during a press availability in Italy following the meeting of G7 member countries on November 26, 2024, emphasized that the United States would continue providing financial and military assistance to Ukraine until the end of the current administration of President Joe Biden.
"We're determined that Ukraine has the money, munitions, and mobilized forces to fight effectively in 2025 or negotiate, but from a position of strength," said Blinken.
Blinken also noted the "unprecedented level of burden-sharing" among allies. According to him, the United States has allocated approximately $100 billion to support Ukraine over the past two and a half years, while allies and partners around the world have contributed nearly $150 billion.
Ukraine, Blinken said, is fighting not only for itself but for the entire world, defending principles that form the foundation of international law:
"Ukraine is fighting for us, not just for itself. It is fighting for us because, as we have said from the start, and the reason so many countries are involved in Ukraine's defense, is that the aggression being committed by Russia is not just aggression against Ukraine and its people. It is aggression against the very principles that underpin the international system and are essential for maintaining peace and stability," Blinken stated.
According to him, during the NATO, G20, and G7 meetings, the European partners' readiness to continue supporting Ukraine in resisting Russian aggression was "clearly reaffirmed."
Previously The G7 nations, along with three other countries, expressed their concern about the deployment of North Korean soldiers to participate in Russia’s war against Ukraine and are preparing a coordinated response.
