Biden: US Is Working On Letting Ukraine Use Long-Range Weapons to Strike Russia
On September 11, US President Joe Biden stated that discussions regarding lifting the ban on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons are currently underway.
When asked if his administration would ease restrictions on Ukraine’s use of these weapons in its conflict with Russia, Biden responded that the administration was “working that out now.”
Additionally, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in an interview with Sky News, indicated that President Biden might consider permitting Ukraine to conduct strikes deep into Russian territory as the war progresses.
Blinken noted that the US has consistently ensured that Ukraine receives “what it needed, when it needed it, to be effective in repelling the Russian aggression” since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. However, he stressed that the US must also consider factors such as Ukraine’s ability to operate and maintain the “sophisticated systems” supplied by Western allies. “What I can tell you is, we’ve adapted and adjusted every step along the way, and we’ll continue—so not ruling out at this stage.”
Blinken added, “We never rule out. But when we rule in, we want to make sure it’s done in such a way that it can advance what the Ukrainians are trying to achieve.”
In recent weeks, Ukraine has been urging its allies to remove all restrictions on long-range strikes against Russia, arguing that such a move would enable them to specifically target aircraft responsible for launching cruise missiles and guided aerial bombs.
