Breaking: Ukraine to Train Gripen Pilots in 2026, Start Jet Joint Production With Saab by 2033

Ukraine will launch pilot and mechanic training for Gripen E-class fighter jets in early 2026, as part of a landmark defense partnership with Sweden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced during a meeting with the press on November 7.
The two countries also plan to begin joint production of aircraft parts and components in Ukraine by 2033, in cooperation with Swedish manufacturer Saab.

The long-term agreement includes the delivery of 150 Gripen fighters, representing the largest military contract in Europe’s history.
Zelenskyy said the collaboration will not only enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities but also help establish a domestic aerospace industry capable of sustaining and upgrading advanced Western aircraft.
Earlier, Ukraine and Sweden agreed to deepen cooperation on defense innovation, Ukrainian Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal said after signing a letter of intent with Swedish Defence Minister Paul Jonson in Stockholm.
