British Film 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' on Russia’s War in Ukraine Nominated for BAFTA

The short film ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors,’ depicting the war in Ukraine, has been nominated for a BAFTA  2025 award on January 15, the association announced its account on X. 

Inspired by true events, the film follows a father and son operating a makeshift hospital on the front line. When a platoon of soldiers arrives at their doorstep, they are forced to make a harrowing decision to protect their patients and themselves.

The lead role is played by Oleksandr Rudynskyi, known for his previous appearance in ‘The Decameron’ series, along with other Ukrainian actors such as Serhii Kalantai, Yurii Radionov, and Oleksandr Yatsenko. The film was directed by the British award-winning director Franz Böhm.

In addition to ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors,’ the list also includes the films ‘Marion’, ‘Milk’, ‘The Flowers Stand Silently’, ‘Witnessing’, and ‘Stomach Bug.’

On November 12 2024, director of the Ukrainian movie ‘Dovbush’ Oles Sanin shared that 5 members of the film’s crew had been killed at the front lines of Russia’s war in Ukraine, and another 7 were missing in action.
