Cyberattack Causes Major Disruptions at Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin Airports

A cyberattack targeting a service provider for check-in and boarding systems has caused widespread disruptions at several major European airports, including London’s Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin, Reuters reported on September 20.
The incident has led to delays and cancellations of flights as automated systems were rendered inoperable, forcing airports to revert to manual check-in and boarding procedures.
Brussels Airport confirmed the impact, stating that the service provider was actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, according to Reuters.

“This has a large impact on the flight schedule and will unfortunately cause delays and cancellations of flights,” the airport operator said in a statement.
Heathrow also reported delays due to a “technical issue” at a third-party supplier, while Berlin airport issued a similar warning about longer waiting times at check-in.
Passengers were advised to confirm their travel plans with airlines before heading to the airports on Saturday, Reuters reported.
While airports in London, Brussels, and Berlin were affected, Frankfurt Airport was not impacted by the cyberattack, according to a spokesperson.
Previously, it was reported that hackers associated with Russia’s cyber espionage units have been exploiting a vulnerability in outdated Cisco corporation software, targeting thousands of networking devices critical to global infrastructure.
