Daily Update: Russia Loses 1,280 Troops, 3 Tanks, and 33 Artillery Systems in Ukraine

Russian forces suffered heavy losses over the past 24 hours, including more than a thousand personnel, according to the latest battlefield update released on January 23 by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ukrainian military officials said Russian losses for the day included 1,280 troops, as well as multiple armored vehicles, artillery systems, and drones.

According to the General Staff’s estimates, total Russian combat losses since the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, through January 22, 2026, are as follows:

  • Personnel: approximately 1,231,120 (+1,280);

  • Tanks: 11,599 (+3);

  • Armored combat vehicles: 23,946 (+3);

  • Artillery systems: 36,549 (+33);

  • Multiple launch rocket systems: 1,623 (no change);

  • Air defense systems: 1,282 (no change);

  • Fixed-wing aircraft: 434 (no change);

  • Helicopters: 347 (no change);

  • Operational-tactical drones: 113,277 (+449);

  • Cruise missiles: 4,190 (no change);

  • Warships and boats: 28 (no change);

  • Submarines: 2 (no change);

  • Military vehicles and fuel trucks: 75,556 (+140);

  • Special equipment: 4,050 (+1).

Ukrainian officials note that the figures are approximate and continue to be updated as combat operations and damage assessments evolve.

Over the past day, Ukrainian forces recorded 222 combat engagements, according to updated military data. Russian forces carried out one missile strike and 85 airstrikes across Ukraine, using a single missile and dropping 226 guided aerial bombs.

In addition, Russia launched 5,862 loitering munitions and conducted 3,545 attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas, including 83 strikes using multiple launch rocket systems.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Russia suffered catastrophic battlefield losses in December 2025, with as many as 1,000 soldiers killed each day, according to internal alliance data.
