Denmark Becomes First NATO Ally to Invest in Ukrainian Arms Production
On June 13, as a part of the 23rd meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine (the Rammstein format), the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov met with the Minister of Defense of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen, and the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Kaisa Ollongren.
The meeting resulted in the signing of a Memorandum with Denmark, which paved the way for the purchase of weapons and equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers.
“This is a big step, as Denmark has become the first foreign NATO country that will invest its funds in the production of weapons on the territory of Ukraine,” according to Umerov.
“The importance of this document lies in the fact that the parties have agreed on the procedure of financing. So, in the future, this process will happen faster. Moreover, this mechanism can also be implemented within the framework of similar agreements with our other partners. We are grateful to the Danish government for its consistent support and constructive dialogue that leads to real results,” said Serhiy Boyev, Deputy Minister for European Integration.
Simultaneously, a letter of intent was signed with the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, which initiated cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands in support of our defense industrial complex.
Earlier in May, Denmark joined a coalition of countries to allow Ukraine to use Western weapons to target strategic military targets on Russian soil, enabling Ukraine to use Danish F-16 fighters for this purpose.
