An unidentified drone crashed in the Belarusian capital of Minsk early on July 29, reportedly due to the impact of electronic warfare systems, according to the country’s Ministry of Defense.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. local time, Belarusian air defense forces detected an unknown aerial object moving toward Minsk. The object was identified as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the ministry stated.
“Following the impact of electronic warfare systems at 02:33, the UAV crashed near building No. 72 on Matusievicha Street,” the statement read. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Images released by the Ministry of Defense show drone debris at the crash site, though the exact type of UAV remains unconfirmed. The ministry noted that additional measures are being implemented to tighten control over the use of the country’s airspace.
Belarusian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. According to the official statement, President Alexander Lukashenko has been briefed and is personally monitoring the situation.
While the origin of the drone has not been disclosed, this is not the first time Belarus has reported UAV incursions into its airspace, including previous incidents involving drones linked to Russian operations.
Earlier, on July 28, Lithuanian authorities reported that an unidentified drone, possibly originating from Belarus, was spotted near Vilnius. Witnesses observed the object flying at low altitude, prompting a police response and an ongoing investigation into its origin and purpose.
