Belarusian Mi-24 Helicopter Shoots Down Russian Drone Heading Toward Ukraine

A Belarusian Mi-24 helicopter shot down a Russian attack drone over the country’s airspace on July 12, according to a source within the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, as reported by Ukrinform on July 14.
The drone, identified as a “Herbera"-type unmanned aerial vehicle, was reportedly flying toward Ukrainian territory when it was intercepted.
The helicopter, operating under the Belarusian Air Defense Forces during a routine airspace monitoring mission, detected and destroyed the UAV.
At the time of the incident, at least three Russian drones were reportedly present in Belarusian airspace.
Debris from the destroyed drone fell in Belarus’s Homieĺ (Gomel) region, near the border with Ukraine.

No official public statement has been issued by Belarusian authorities regarding the incident.
The Herbera-type drone is believed to be a relatively new model in Russia’s growing arsenal of unmanned aerial vehicles.
While not officially acknowledged in open Russian military databases, sources in Ukrainian defense circles suggest that Herbera drones are designed for strike missions and could be part of Moscow’s effort to test or deploy less-documented systems in active operations.
Its exact specifications remain classified, but it is assumed to carry a modular payload for reconnaissance or explosive delivery.
Earlier on the night of July 12, Russian forces launched a coordinated drone attack on northern Ukraine using UAVs that reportedly crossed Belarusian airspace before striking the Zhytomyr region.
At least three Shahed-type drones flew over Belarus for several minutes before entering Ukrainian territory. Belarusian authorities have not commented on the incursion.
