Drones Attack Chechnya for the First Time, Targeting Russian Special Forces University Named After Putin
A drone strike targeted the Russian Special Forces University named after Vladimir Putin in Gudermes, Chechnya, setting a building’s roof on fire, according to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov on October 29.
This marks the first recorded drone strike in Chechnya.
Kadyrov detailed the incident, saying, “Today, at 6:30 am in Gudermes, a drone attack set fire to the roof of an unoccupied building on the Russian Special Forces University campus.”
“There were no casualties or injuries, and the fire has been extinguished.”
Kadyrov added that the university’s operations remain unaffected.
Opened in 2013, the university’s training program was expanded in April 2022 to prepare personnel for deployment in Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, according to Russian media sources.
On February 20, 2024 Chechen warlord Kadyrov said that the university will be named after Putin.
