EU to Begin Accession Talks with Ukraine and Moldova

The EU Council has given the green light to negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, paving the way for their formal accession to the bloc. The announcement came from the Belgian Presidency of the Council on their official Twitter page.

“The EU Council has approved the EU’s general positions, including negotiation frameworks, for accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. This opens the way for the start of negotiations on Tuesday, June 25th in Luxembourg,” the statement said.

The intergovernmental conferences will kick off at 3:30 PM local time for Ukraine, followed by Moldova’s at 6:00 PM. This news comes after earlier efforts by EU and Ukrainian officials to launch negotiations by June 25th.
