The European Union is set to impose sanctions on individuals and organizations linked to Iran’s transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia with the sanctions expected to be enforced on Monday.

This was reported by Reuters, citing a senior EU official.

Ahead of Monday's EU Foreign Ministers' meeting, the official revealed plans for "a first package of designations in the context of Iran's transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia."

The October Foreign Affairs Council will start at 10 am in Luxembourg, and be chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

Iran has been supplying Russia with attack drones but had previously avoided providing more advanced weaponry, likely due to warnings from the US and Europe that this would lead to severe sanctions.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently confirmed that Iran has supplied short-range ballistic missiles to Russia. This development has prompted new US and UK sanctions against Iran.
