France to Continue Supplying SCALP Missiles to Ukraine Despite Limited Stockpiles
France will continue providing SCALP long-range missiles to Ukraine and considers Russian military targets legitimate for Ukrainian strikes, French Ambassador to Ukraine Gaël Veyssière said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on December 13.
“Yes, we are continuing to supply SCALP missiles. We don’t have a vast stock, and replenishing them takes time as we need to ensure our own country’s defense as well. However, we are doing everything possible, sending new French SCALP missiles to Ukraine, while the UK supplies Storm Shadows and the US provides ATACMS,” Veyssière stated.
The ambassador also reaffirmed France’s stance on Ukraine’s right to use French-supplied long-range weaponry to strike within Russian territory.
“There has never been a ‘red line’ on this matter. Military targets on Russian soil are legitimate. Ukraine has the right to target Russian military capacities because it’s absurd that Russia can attack Ukraine from its territory, but Ukraine is unable to eliminate this threat. That would be unjust,” Veyssière added.
Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that Western allies should not impose “red lines” in their support for Ukraine, emphasizing France’s commitment to providing military aid as long as necessary.
