Some of the Mirage 2000-5 aircraft that France plans to deliver to Ukraine will be modified to equip them with the ability to engage ground targets.

This was announced by French newspaper Sud Ouest on September 18.

Mirage 2000-5 aircraft were primarily upgraded to support the fighter fleet in engaging aerial targets. It’s radar can simultaneously detect 24 aerial targets, of which the aircraft can track eight and engage four at the same time.

President Emmanuel Macron announced on June 6 the decision to transfer Mirage fighters to Ukraine and provide training for pilots in France. Mirage aircraft are equipped with SCALP cruise missiles, which are already in Ukraine’s inventory deployed on Su-24M aircraft.

Previously on July 15, French Ambassador Gaël Vésier noted that the process of delivery involves technical and flight personnel training, which cannot be expedited beyond certain time constraints, and specific details regarding the timing and quantity of aircraft were not disclosed.
