Germany-Backed Long-Range Weapons Made in Ukraine Set for Delivery Within Weeks

Germany’s first long-range weapons produced in Ukraine with Berlin’s financial backing could be delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces within weeks, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on June 13.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Brussels, Pistorius recalled that during Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov’s visit to Berlin last week, the two sides agreed that Germany would fund the production of long-range weapons inside Ukraine.
“This is how we are putting our plan into action—one that is more important than ever—to strengthen direct investment in Ukraine’s defense industry. Everything on the ground moves faster, and the production capacity is there,” Pistorius said, as quoted by Interfax-Ukraine.

“The advantage is that a substantial number of long-range systems can be manufactured within this year. The first systems could be operational in the Ukrainian Armed Forces within weeks.”
He also noted that Kyiv and Berlin had agreed to continue supplying air defense systems, weapons, and ammunition, along with funding for repairs and cooperation on satellite communications.
Previously on May 28, Pistorius and Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov signed an agreement in Berlin to fund the production of long-range weapons made in Ukraine. The deal, worth €2.2 billion ($2.38 billion), involves the German firm Diehl Defense, known for producing IRIS-T air defense systems and related missiles.
