Germany will provide Ukraine with an additional $82 million in winter support to help maintain basic energy services after Russian attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure, according to a report by DW on December 18.
German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan said that the expanded support is intended “to secure heating, water supply and electricity to more than two and a half million people.”

The funding is primarily aimed at decentralized heating investments such as mobile heating units, with Alabali-Radovan saying municipalities should be able to heat schools, kindergartens and hospitals even if large power plants come under attack.
Separately, Germany is also providing $23.44 million through UNICEF via the state development bank KfW to support winter heating and electricity needs at educational and medical facilities.
UNICEF stated that the funding is expected to help provide heat and power for approximately 1,380 schools and kindergartens, as well as 10 hospitals, and enable around 400,000 Ukrainian children to continue learning during the winter.
Earlier, it was reported that Germany is providing an extra $46 million in winter assistance to help Ukrainian civilians cope with energy infrastructure damage from Russian strikes, including repairs to heating systems and the delivery of generators and essential supplies.
