Germany Sends 20 Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicles to Ukraine
German defense company Rheinmetall delivered another 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to Ukraine, scheduled for the end of the third quarter in 2024, according to a company announcement on October 25.
With this delivery, the total number of IFVs sent to Ukraine through the exchange program will reach approximately 200 units, with over half being the Marder 1A3 model.
The exchange program also includes the supply of other armored vehicles, such as additional Marder IFVs and Leopard main battle tanks.
The most recent batch of 20 Marder IFVs was ordered and funded by the German government.
The Marder 1A3 vehicles provided to Ukraine are equipped with advanced laser rangefinders, which enhance target accuracy and effectiveness in combat, giving Ukrainian forces a technological advantage on the battlefield.
Rheinmetall first received orders for these IFVs in March 2023 and promptly delivered the initial batch of 20 units to Ukraine.
