Italy to Send Second Samp-T Battery to Ukraine
On September 16, Italy announced it would send a second Samp-T air defense battery to Ukraine. The move aims to further protect the civilian population from ongoing Russian aggression.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced the upcoming delivery, emphasizing the country’s continued provision of military, civil, and financial assistance to Ukraine.
“We have offered unconditional support, and now we’re reinforcing it with a second Samp-T battery,” he stated.
Tajani noted that Ukraine has not requested additional weaponry beyond what Italy is already providing, despite the extensive military aid offered by countries like Great Britain and the United States. He expressed optimism that an “impactful peace conference” focused on Ukraine could be convened by the end of the year.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Italy has supplied military equipment, such as anti-tank missile systems, anti-aircraft guns, armored vehicles, and ammunition to Ukraine.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced plans to increase military aid to Ukraine to €1.7 billion in 2025, underscoring the country’s commitment to the nation’s defense.
