Japan Expands Defense Aid to Ukraine With New Batch of 30 Military Vehicles

Japan has delivered an additional 30 military vehicles to Ukraine, following an earlier shipment of 101 vehicles, including Toyota HMV SUVs, Mitsubishi Type 73 Kogata, and tracked engineering machines, Japan Ministry of Defense reported on X on October 14.
This latest delivery marks a new phase of Japan’s technical assistance program to Ukraine, which began in June 2024.

“We hope our vehicles will serve well in Ukraine,” the Ministry wrote.
The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers previously approved a draft agreement with Japan for an 8.8 billion yen grant—approximately $58 million—to support reconstruction projects, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced during a government meeting on February 11.
Japan has also decided to shut down all six branches of its Japan Center for Trade and Economic Development in Russia, according to Kyodo News on September 10.
Earlier, the country expressed interest in joining the NATO command for its Ukrainian mission based in Germany. Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani made the announcement during talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Tokyo.
