Johnson Proposes Trump’s Peace Plan That Would Compromise Ukrainian Territorial Integrity
Boris Johnson has shared a peace plan for Ukraine attributed to Donald Trump. Johnson outlined the plan in his column for the Daily Mail, suggesting that under Trump’s leadership, there could be an opportunity to resolve the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine on terms favorable to both Ukraine and Western nations.
Johnson proposed strengthening Western support for Ukraine and simplifying bureaucratic processes to help Ukrainians obtain necessary permits and access NATO equipment for defense. He speculated that Trump could negotiate a settlement with Putin, recognizing Ukraine within its borders as of February 24, 2022. Johnson also supported Ukraine’s eventual integration into the EU and NATO, suggesting a transition where Ukrainian forces replace around 70,000 American troops stationed in European US bases, potentially reducing US costs.
Additionally, Johnson mentioned the proposal to restore Ukraine’s borders to their February 24, 2022 boundaries, while acknowledging Crimea remaining under Russian control. The plan guarantees Ukraine’s future accession to the EU and NATO.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously responded to Donald Trump’s peace plan with the statement: “The question is what is the price, and who will pay. (…) We will never go on this, and there’s no guy in the world who can push us to do it.” Earlier, he also dismissed the possibility of resolving the war within 24 hours, as proposed by Trump.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has its own plans for peace negotiations, with a new peace summit scheduled for November. Ukrainian President expressed hope that this summit will be a crucial step towards peace negotiations with Russia and enhancing security in the region.
