Keith Kellogg Slams Russia’s Kyiv Strike as Sign of Escalation Over Peace

US Presidential Envoy Keith Kellogg has stated that Russia’s missile strike on a government building in Kyiv cannot be seen as a signal of Moscow’s readiness to end the war through diplomacy.
He shared his position in a post via X on September 7.
According to Kellogg, the greatest danger of any war lies in the risk of escalation, and Russia is clearly pursuing this path. He emphasized that by carrying out the largest air assault of the war—one that struck the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine—Moscow has demonstrated that it is deepening the war rather than seeking a political solution.
The danger in any war is escalation. Russia appears to be escalating with the largest attack of the war hitting offices of the UKR Cabinet in Kyiv. Kellogg recalled that just two weeks earlier he had visited this same building together with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
“History shows events can escalate out of control through actions as these. It is why President Trump is working to stop this war,” Trump’s special representative wrote.
He underscored once again that Russia’s actions do not reflect any intention to negotiate peace.
“The attack was not a signal that Russia wants to diplomatically end this war,” Kellogg concluded.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump indicated his readiness to escalate sanctions against Russia over its war on Ukraine, telling reporters he is prepared to enter a “second phase” of punitive measures and intends to speak with Russian leader Vladimir Putin “very soon.”
