Kim Jong Un Unveils Stryker Clone: North Korea Rolls Out US-Style Wheeled Tank

North Korea has unveiled a new wheeled tank reportedly developed using a locally produced version of the US Stryker armored vehicle.
According to the defense observer KPA_bot on X, the new combat vehicle was presented at the “Defense Development 2025” exhibition in Pyongyang.
The wheeled tank appears to be built on a chassis first shown publicly in October 2020. The platform features a distinctive gap between the second and third axles, suggesting that it may be derived from the Soviet-designed BTR-80 or its North Korean copy, the M2010 (Chunma-D).

Compared to earlier prototypes, the new vehicle’s hull has undergone significant updates. It now includes reinforced side armor and repositioned headlights mounted on the front bumper.
The gun is installed in a full-scale turret, with the barrel resembling that of a Soviet 122mm D-30 howitzer or its Chinese variant, the Type-96. It remains unclear whether this represents an entirely new North Korean artillery design.
The turret is also equipped with smoke grenade launchers, a remotely operated 7.62mm machine gun, and a panoramic sight placed at the rear.

A scale model of this vehicle was displayed in 2024, though the prototype revealed this year differs in several structural aspects, particularly in the hull design.
While it is uncertain whether the vehicle will enter mass production, analysts note that North Korea has already manufactured numerous Stryker copies in past years.
Earlier, North Korea unveiled a tracked air defense system resembling Russia’s Pantsir-S1, featuring 12 missiles and radar to target drones and low-flying aircraft.
