Latvia to Send British CVR(T) Armored Vehicles to Ukraine
The Ministry of Defense of Latvia will transfer to Ukraine combat reconnaissance tracked armored vehicles CVR(T), which the country previously purchased from Britain.
This was reported by Delfi news agency citing the Press Department of the Ministry of Defense of Latvia.
In compliance with operational security, the Ministry did not disclose the specific number of vehicles to be transferred.
During the summer, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds said that the procurement of new infantry fighting vehicles to replace the CVR(T) vehicles in the Latvian army is in the final stages.
The contract for 123 CVR(T) armored vehicles was signed back in 2014, of which 116 are modernized, and Latvia signed another contract for the purchase of additional equipment with Britain in 2019.
CVR(T) are small, highly mobile, air-transportable armored vehicles, used for various tasks, including reconnaissance, patrolling, fire support, and evacuation.
The Ministry has previously announced that Latvia will contribute military support to Ukraine amounting to 0.25% of its gross domestic product annually, at least through 2026.
On September 11, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa announced a new package of military support for Ukraine during a meeting in Kyiv with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
