Macron: Putin Is Not Ready for Peace

French President Emmanuel Macron believes that in the third year of full-scale war, Vladimir Putin is not ready for peace, according to his interview with CNBC.

The President of France noted that the “Olympic ceasefire” is a tradition and it would be “very important to use this window for one month”. At the same time, he emphasized that the ceasefire is not the end of the war for him. “A lasting peace is the finale,” Macron said.

However, according to the French president, Putin did not agree to his proposal. “So, it is clear to everyone in the world. He decided to start this war, and he is not ready for peace,” noted the President of France.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated regarding the idea of a ceasefire during the Olympics in Paris that “such a pause would only benefit Moscow on the battlefield”.

Putin commented on the idea of an “Olympic ceasefire” at a press conference during his visit to China on May 17, hinting that Moscow will not accept it.

In April, Macron said in an interview with French media that he hopes to reach an agreement on a ceasefire in the main conflicts ongoing in the world during the Summer Olympic Games and counts on the support of various partners, including the leader of China.

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games, the 2024 Olympics, will be held in Paris from July 26th to August 11th.
